SCHOOL’S OUT: BBBSSM Celebrates graduations and more

June 2024

End-of-year events create lasting memories for site-based and community matches!

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southeast Michigan celebrated numerous milestones across Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, and Washtenaw Counties recently. At Estabrook Elementary School on the west side, the school-based programming concluded for the year on May 29. Rachel Sulkowski, BBBSSEM’s site-based matching and match support coordinator, played a pivotal role, attending the school’s fifth-grade graduation on June 6 and volunteering at the annual field day.

Reflecting on the eventful week at Estabrook, BBBS Family Engagement Coordinator Keyera North also joined to support her Little, highlighting the organization’s deep involvement in the community. Over the years, BBBSSEM staff have witnessed many of these Littles grow from second graders into confident fifth graders.

Meanwhile, BBBSSEM proudly celebrated the achievements of 13 seniors from Pershing High School who completed their mentoring program. These seniors, including Valedictorian MD Kolil, will be graduating on Monday, marking a significant milestone in their educational journey. Downtown Detroit came alive as these students proudly donned caps and gowns, a momentous occasion that allowed them to share their success with their Bigs.
