BEING BIG MEANS
BEING THERE.
Maybe it was the coach who encouraged you to keep going. The guidance counselor who insisted your dreams were within reach. The colleague who took the time to listen and offer advice even though they weren’t your manager.
The truth is these little moments are what shape our lives and can have a life-changing impact on the lives of young people.
What may seem small, is actually the transformative power of human connections that can only be found in mentorship.
And we need more of the little things. We need more mentors who remember the little moments and experiences that affected their personal and professional journeys and now welcome the opportunity to do the same for a young person.
You don’t need to have a specific title, a degree, or any special qualifications other than being compassionate, patient, and accepting. It takes a little time, a little encouragement and a laugh or two, so that every child has what—and who—they need to achieve a BIG and brighter future. Because mentorship sounds huge, but the truth is…
IT TAKES LITTLE TO BE BIG.

The mentors, or Bigs as we like to call them, at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southeast Michigan are ready to be all of those things... and more. For 30 years, due in-large part to private donations, we’ve been able to recruit, screen, match and support mentoring relationships that have changed the lives of thousands of young people across Southeast Michigan — one match at a time.
You'll see the impact of a match just as much as your child.
