Dozens of community members, professionals and aspiring mentors gathered at the “Big Brothers Big Sisters in Action Mentoring Summit” on January 28 at the Durfee Innovation Society auditorium. Hosted by Dr. Joselyn Mitchell-Parker, the event featured a dynamic panel discussion with CEO and President Jen Spitler, Director of
Operations DK Williams and Bigs (mentors) Kevin Parker, Jawayne Murdock, and Brandy Lusk, who shared their expertise and personal experiences on the transformative power of mentorship. Attendees and vendors networked, engaged in meaningful conversations, and left with a deeper understanding of the urgent need for mentors in our community.
With over 200 local BBBSSEM youth still waiting for a mentor, the event underscored a powerful truth: mentorship isn’t just beneficial—it’s essential. Panelists spoke candidly about the impact of having a trusted guide in a young person’s life, from boosting confidence to opening doors to new opportunities. These relationships don’t just change the lives of Littles; they strengthen entire communities, fostering resilience and success for the next generation.
