The Free Bikes 4 Kidz (FB4K) Detroit organization allowed over 150 of our Littles to get bikes on Sunday, December 10th. Parents/guardians or Bigs were able to take their Little(s) to the FB4K warehouse in Detroit were they were able to shop for a bike. Each Little was given a golden ticket then paired with a FB4K personal shopper to help find the bike that was right for them. Each Little was able to test ride their bike in the warehouse and was provided a new helmet.
Some Littles like Damari synced his bike color and helmet color (dark green). Little Damari’s Big Sam took him to get his new bike at the warehouse. Even though it was cold outside Big Sam said they were going to look into riding at the Velodrome (an indoor cycling track that also has a non-race track) in Detroit. Big Sam and Little Damari have been matched for over 5 years. In the Spring of 2018 their first match outing was going to the Belle Isle Aquarium and getting ice cream. Big Sam has remained dedicated to mentoring Little Damari despite the pandemic and Demari’s family struggles. Throughout their match journey they have been consistent with match outings and communication. GettingLittle Damari a bike provides another activity for this match to do together.
FB4K is a nonprofit organization geared toward helping all kids ride into a happier, healthier childhood by providing bikes to those most in need. They collect, refurbish and distribute bikes, along with new helmets, to under-resourced kids in the metro Detroit community. In 2022, they distributed over 3,000 bikes. We were so honored to be able to partner with them for this opportunity! Thank you, FB4K!
