Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southeast Michigan proudly welcomes Erica Everett and Zhiyon Mitchell to the team. They both bring their own impressive backgrounds and enthusiasm for supporting youth and families.
Erica Everett, Family Engagement Coordinator, is a Detroit native who began her academic journey at Howard University, earning a Bachelor’s in Supply Chain Management. Following graduation, she joined Accenture as a Management Consultant, where she led projects in Project Management, Change Management, and Agile Transformation, skills that will be invaluable in her role at BBBS. Erica’s desire to create meaningful change inspired her to pursue a Master’s in International Psychology at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology, focusing on trauma services for children and families in underserved communities. Erica’s journey has given her a unique perspective on bridging mental health resources in marginalized areas, which she’s excited to incorporate into BBBS programming. Her experiences have also fostered her love for exploring new places, from traveling abroad to uncovering hidden gems in Detroit’s food scene, always embracing a new challenge. Erica is passionate about helping families feel supported and engaged, and she brings with her a strategic, compassionate approach to empower the BBBS community.
Zhiyon Mitchell, East Side School-Based Matching and Mentoring Coordinator, has been dedicated to community service from a young age, volunteering through her school’s National Honors Society and helping at-risk families in Clinton Township, Michigan. Her love for sports, especially basketball, taught her about resilience and teamwork, skills she applies to her role today.
After graduating from Central Michigan University with a Bachelor’s in Family Studies and Child Development, she completed a pivotal internship with BBBS in 2022. Inspired by her time there, Zhiyon went on to teach preschool in New York City, where she developed a deep understanding of the challenges faced by youth in different social contexts. Her teaching experience furthered her dedication to uplifting youth and creating safe, supportive spaces for growth. Returning to Michigan, Zhiyon is excited to reconnect with BBBS, where she’ll lead efforts to foster enriching relationships for young people. A passionate foodie and thrift enthusiast, Zhiyon brings warmth, creativity, and a strong sense of purpose to her role, eager to make an impact in the lives of BBBS youth and families.
The BBBS team is thrilled to have Erica and Zhiyon join the mission of building brighter futures for local youth and is excited to support them as they bring their unique skills to Southeast Michigan’s communities.
