Big Sister Emmy and Little Sister Daiylah recently marked a significant milestone—celebrating their four-year Match-a-versary! Over the years, their connection has only strengthened as they’ve shared countless fun activities and moments together.
This match loves spending their time exploring new places, going out to eat, watching movies, getting their nails done, and browsing bookstores. One of their favorite spots is Belle’s Diner in Ann Arbor, where Daiylah always orders pancakes and bacon. In addition to their outings, they enjoy swimming and attending agency events hosted by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southeast Michigan. A standout memory for both was attending the Zombie Zap event in costume, where they had an unforgettable time. They’re already looking forward to the next Zombie Zap or Halloween event and plan to go in costume once again.
An especially unique aspect of their bond is that Emmy and Daiylah share the same birthday. For the past four years, they’ve made it a tradition to celebrate together by going out to eat. Daiylah often proudly refers to them as “birthday twins and Cancer Queens,” a title that adds a special layer to their relationship.
When asked if she’s seen changes in Daiylah over the years, Emmy noted that Daiylah has not only grown in confidence but also in height—laughing as she shared that Daiylah is now taller than she is! Emmy speaks highly of Daiylah’s kindness and enjoys being someone her Little Sister feels comfortable talking to about anything.
Daiylah has expressed that one of the things she values most about their relationship is that she can always rely on her Big Sister for open conversations and support.
This strong and positive relationship is a testament to the power of mentorship. If you’re looking to make a lasting impact on a young person’s life, consider becoming a Big and helping create moments like these.
