Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southeast Michigan is thrilled to celebrate the Match Graduation of Big Brother Josh and Little Brother Lance, who have shared nearly three years of unforgettable adventures, laughter, and growth. Matched in December 2021, Josh and Lance formed a bond built on shared interests, particularly their love of Marvel movies and comic books, which became a cornerstone of their relationship.

Over the course of 34 months, the duo made countless memories. From eagerly awaiting the latest Marvel movie releases—Ant-Man, Black Panther 2, Spider-Man, and more—to discovering new comics and cooking meals together, Josh and Lance fully embraced their time as a match. Josh even taught Lance how to make Brazilian bread, sparking Lance’s love for exploring new foods.

While their outings ranged from trying unique cuisines to attending agency events, both agree that their favorite moments were at the movies. Their cinematic adventures gave them endless conversations, laughter, and insights into their shared passion for storytelling.

A recent match graduation ceremony was an emotional affair. Lance, inspired by his gratitude for Josh’s mentorship, memorized a heartfelt letter to recite during the closure meeting. In his touching message, Lance thanked Josh for his unwavering support and revealed, “If I ever become a father, I would want my child to have someone JUST like you in their life.”

Josh and Lance’s journey exemplifies the power of mentorship. Lance has already expressed interest in becoming a Big Brother himself one day, while Josh is eager to mentor again in the future. Both are committed to staying in touch as Lance navigates the next chapter of his life, including plans to pursue a career in a helping profession.

Special thanks to the Match Support Specialists and staff who supported Josh and Lance along the way, and to the team members who made this Match Graduation so memorable.

Josh and Lance’s story is a testament to the lasting impact of mentorship, showing how even after the official match closes, the bond remains. Their journey highlights what it means to be #BiggerTogether, and we can’t wait to see the incredible things they both accomplish in the years to come!
