Give a Little Time.

Volunteer or mentor with BBBS.

Be Big.

Support the BBBS mission.

You don’t need to have a specific title, a degree, or any special qualifications other than being compassionate, patient, and accepting. Because just like mentoring itself, a child will never ask that you be perfect, only that you be present. One of the biggest barriers to volunteering is the perception of time required. It’s no wonder given the world that we live in—the commitment of time for work, family, and responsibilities can make one feel like anything else that will require time could be more than we have to give. BBBSSEM offers a variety of volunteer opportunities that accommodate individuals who have a lot of time and those who have just a little, but all opportunities have an impact on our Littles and their families!

BBBSSEM Volunteers embrace JEDI (Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion) and are:

  • Compassionate & Caring Adults
  • Patient & Positive People
  • Open-minded & Honest Volunteers
  • Nonjudgmental & Dependable Friends

BBBSSEM Volunteers are needed for a variety of mentoring and non mentoring activities. Our volunteers must meet the following minimum eligibility requirements:

  • Commit to a minimum of one year
  • Be  18+ years old
  • Pass safety/background checks

BBBSSEM is committed to our Littles and our priorities include and encompass:

  • Youth safety–our #1 priority
  • Littles (youth) who are 7-18 years old (2nd to 12th grade)
  • Service Areas–Macomb, Oakland, Washtenaw and Wayne Counties
  • Professionally supported matches
  • Allies / JEDI Commitment

We’ve often heard from our Bigs that they benefit from their mentorship relationship just as much, if not more, than their Little. In fact, many Bigs also experience reverse mentorship through their Littles, who often provide new, fresh perspectives on trends, needs, and challenges facing their generation.
