We are thrilled to announce a monumental achievement for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southeast Michigan and our counterparts across the nation! Thanks to the leadership of Senators Hassan (D-NH) and Young (R-IN), the U.S. Senate unanimously passed the Big Brothers Big Sisters 120th Anniversary Resolution. This significant recognition honors our organization’s rich legacy of empowering young people and fostering lifelong connections through mentorship. With this resolution, we celebrate not only 120 years of impact but also the promise of a brighter future for generations to come.

U.S. Senator Gary Peters (D-MI) and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southeast Michigan Operations Director DK Williams are all smiles in Lansing.

The House version of the resolution, introduced by Representatives Amodei (R-NV) and Scanlon (D-PA), is expected to pass later this fall. This legislative support extends beyond symbolic importance—it reaffirms the critical role Big Brothers Big Sisters plays in communities throughout Michigan and across the country.

With an incredible show of bipartisan support, we were able to surpass our goal, securing 51 original co-sponsors on both the Senate and House resolutions (21 in the Senate and 30 in the House). This overwhelming backing is a testament to the power of mentorship and the shared belief in the transformative work we do.

For us at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southeast Michigan, this milestone is not only a cause for celebration but also an exciting opportunity to extend our reach. It reminds our community—and introduces many—of who we are and why we are here. Our mission to ignite the inherent potential in every young person is more critical than ever. This resolution amplifies our efforts, helping to further raise awareness of the profound impact mentorship has on youth, families, and communities.

As we commemorate 120 years, we also look ahead to the future. Together, with our national and state counterparts, we remain committed to creating lasting change by building meaningful relationships and offering support to children who need it most. This resolution reaffirms that Big Brothers Big Sisters is a vital part of the fabric of communities nationwide, and we will continue to grow our reach, helping even more young people achieve their dreams.

Thank you for your continued support as we celebrate this historic milestone. Here’s to another 120 years of empowering youth, strengthening communities, and making a lasting impact!
