BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS OF SOUTHEAST MICHIGAN HOSTS ‘GROW A LITTLE BREAKFAST’

June 2024

Nurturing futures while celebrating mentorship and community.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southeast Michigan (BBBSSEM) successfully hosted its community event, “Grow A Little Breakfast,” on Tuesday, May 21 at The Community House in Birmingham.

“Grow A Little Breakfast” was a “fund and friend-raising event” where attendees learned about BBBSSEM and how companies, individuals, and organizations can engage in their mission to create and support one-to-one mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth.

This event highlighted the transformative power of mentorship for young people and emphasized the importance of the little (and big) moments that shape our lives.

Grow A Little Breakfast featured meaningful conversations about the impact of mentorship, with community-minded attendees hearing inspiring stories from individuals transformed by mentoring. Keynote speaker Sherisse Butler, Senior Vice President-Executive Director at City Year, shared her perspectives on the importance of mentorship in shaping the future of our youth.

BBBSSEM called for more mentors to step up and change the lives of the 200+ Littles (youth ages 7-18) in Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, and Washtenaw counties who are on the waitlist for adult mentor volunteers.

“We were excited to host ‘Grow A Little Breakfast’ and showcase the transformative power of mentorship. This event was not just about enjoying a meal; it was about coming together as a community to make a difference in the lives of our youth,” Spitler said. “Mentorship isn’t about titles or qualifications; it’s about being there for someone. It’s about offering a little time, a little encouragement, and a few laughs to help a child realize their potential.”
